BIO

Lead singer and co-founder of The Evinrudes, Sherry Cothran fronted the band’s ride to a #1 hit song on rock radio, record deals on Mercury Records, NY, and Flying Sparks, London and many tours in bucket list venues sharing stages with the Goo Goo Dolls, Bare Naked Ladies, Spin Doctors and many other rock acts of the late 90’s/early aughts.

Based out of Nashville, The Evinrudes were pioneers of music city’s indie rock scene. One of the first of a very few rock bands at that time to chart a hit single and sign a major label deal, ‘making it’ in rock and roll from a city that seemed firmly ensconced in country music.

Cothran left The Evinrudes in the early ‘aughts and while continuing to make music as a solo artist, placing songs in t.v., commercials and movie, she went to Vanderbilt Divinity, got an M.Div. and has spent over a decade as an official ordained Rev. in the UMC, immersing herself in projects that create hope in hopeless places. She released 3 solo projects to critical acclaim during that time.

After moving to Chattanooga, authoring 2 books and launching a nonprofit, Beloved Woman, to help women create a pathway to a living wage through entrepreneurship, Cothran began writing songs again, reuniting with the original Evinrudes. Her latest album is co-written by former partner, Brian Reed, and backed by the band’s original members; it showcases a delightful return to her “distinctive, hickory smoke vocals” (The Star, UK, David Dunn). Staying true to her “hypnotic, dazzling” (Robert K. Oerman, Music Row Magazine) sound, the band’s new project is full of edgy soul and still "mixes yearning emotions with sassy confidence." (Bucketfull of Brains, London, Terry Mermon) REV is out on Cothran’s indie label, Sunland Music, May, 2024.
